EAHL's IV European Conference on Health Law
The European Association of Health Law is very pleased to announce its 4th Conference (2013) in Coimbra/Portugal. This will be hosted in collaboration with the Centre for Biomedical Law of the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra.
The theme for 2013 is European Health Law & Patient Safety
“How familiar are you with the concept of patient safety? Hundreds of thousands of patients are harmed or die each year due to unsafe care, or get injured inadvertently when seeking health care.” (WHO).
What is the contribution that laws and jurists can give to ensure that access to healthcare is done in increasingly safer conditions?
What can laws and jurists do in order to turn errors into opportunities to build safer health systems?
The conference will consist of several keynote addresses from distinguished guests, and will also provide an opportunity for a wide range of presentations to be delivered in parallel sessions.
The Organising Committee invites experts to participate in these parallel sessions, which will be divided into three sub-themes:
Prevention
Compensation
Learning with errors
Examples of presentation themes in parallel sessions on Prevention:
• Does a robust practice of obtaining informed consent helps to avoid medical errors?
• Can improvements in off-label prescription practices reduce risks?
• Do guidelines and their strict adherence lead to systems that are safer or error free?
• Does treatment of the most vulnerable increases the opportunity for error?
• What are the challenges and opportunities for patient safety presented by the implementation of electronic health records?
• What can telemedicine do for patient safety?
